after this one, I’ll choose another subject for the next posts.
old man drinking in a touristy street. That type of painting is called tinga tinga, invented by the Tanzanian artist of the same name in the 70’s. Very popular and easy to produce in the Henry Ford’s chain style.
I love this one. The girl is veiled but obviously fighting a bit against traditions: jean’s and a scooter, pink on top! I said once that in Uganda, there were as many women as men on bikes but it is absolutely not the case in Tanzania. This girl is an rare exception.
a typical scene all over the world, though in different patterns. In the west, how many times do you see a smartly dressed girl (and made up) hooked with a guy who can’t be bothered to even match his socks? Girls, I bet some of you know what I’m talking about. Here it is a bit of a different kind: a veiled girl dressed in a traditional way whereas the guy look like out of a rap band. Talking about difference within same cultures… now maybe the couple would love to both dress equally in western style but the weight of tradition is still too big?
the opposition party. This board looks like a child has painted it. Let’s hope the leaders and other members have a better level of education.
and some opposition posters for elections. That man on posters calls himself ‘prof’ as one can read so all should be fine…
selling trousers. Considering the hot and humid climate, not all men wear trousers around. Not the best place for such a business…
on the mosque stairs.
taking a rest.
as said yesterday, these high sidewalks are located all over the town. Very convenient to sit on and rest, or escape when floods happen.
details of a wooden door.
T shirt showing a condom advertisement. Some hope at the horizon. “Salama” means safe in swahili.
Food stall. no clue what the Lebanon brothers are, even less what they do while in action.
a funny house trapped between buildings. Curious waste of space in front of it.
