near Oldoinyo Lengai and lake Natron in the Rift valley lie a bunch of very old craters, proof that the area used to be seriously active, alongside volcanoes now extinct, with the exception of Lengai still slightly smelling rotten eggs or producing little smokes.
here a view of Lengai’s neighbor, Mt Gelai, with some of those craters.
some craters are flat and large, bordered by Maasai villages. It must be nice, when life sucks, to sit on the edge, legs dangling and pondering life…
Others are a bit higher, not so eroded.
I’d like to know why tress grow on the slopes of those two craters but don’t spread across the plains.
more villages, giving a hint of the size of that crater.
