the best place to spot chimpanzees and enjoy a great experience on a beautiful location is Mahale Nat'l park on lake Tanganyika, western Tanzania. And no, I'm not on anybody payroll. I used to fly clients out there and stay weeks in that tropical and hilly forest overviewing the lake and sometimes the Congo on the opposite side.

rules have not changed, 10 m is the minimum distance, surgical masks have to be worn and time on the spot has been reduced. But chimpanzees didn't sign for those rules so they might come very close to you and since another important rule is to stay calm to avoid upsetting the animals and risking a bad situation, better stay still and watch the next move.
