even if the weather is dead hot in Arizona, cars still rot. So sad for those vintage wrecks. But keep an eye peeled and colors and shapes jump at your camera.

one drives on the long stretches of US roads and never gets bored (well you shouldn’t in my opinion….), specially in the West.

Burma, B/W photography

 

recycling seems to be taken very seriously by Burmese people. These shops were selling the smallest oldest and most various items, salvaged from any appliance. Smoking ladies are common sightings.

Pictures above were shot in Rangoon but the same vision could be seen anywhere else in the country.

 

Burmese food… luckily there were big Indian and Chinese communities for proper food. I did try some Burmese dishes for the sake of it but that’s it. Prunes marinated in salt will always come to my mind… I was later confirmed that salt intake was skyrocketing in the local diet, enough to give kidney problems to many people in their 40’s.

I was a bit surprised, in 2004, to spot these modern clothes and attitudes on many youngsters. Not what I expected to find there according to my readings.

 

a tourist and a camera seemed to be a rarity in this neighborhood. One girl left running but giggling, the other one stayed there laughing too.

sugar cane sellers. Shops are usually brightly painted, not with much care, but bright.

 

This one is a bit puzzling. Biafra is quite ancient story, 1968, and far away from here. So who really cares? Are there any veteran around? Is to copy the Baghdad Café sound? Then the “Kwa mzee” thing…that is “for the man”!  Anyway I’m not sure girls are tempted to dive in this hole anyway. I’ve seen lousy cafes much better decorated than this one….

 

Shops are brightly painted but the coaches follow the trend.

That hill upper right of the picture…what does it make you think of? The local people didn’t miss it and call the bum hill.

 

looking north this ridge is nicknamed the saddle by pilots, as it links Mts Meru to Monduli.

 

 

Monduli, a little mountain nearby that is of big concern for pilots in bad weather.
