Remote lake Natron, a harsh and usually inhospitable piece of bush…but I just love this place. Pininyi is originally a Masai village but some nearby Sonjo tribesmen have moved in lately.
I had landed a few hours before, my colleagues didn't need me for the medical work so I went for a walk around.
8 minutes between between the first and last picture…sometimes, things fall in place without a glitch. I had just given some children some promised prints from a previous visit. I knew they’d run away to show off their prized prints everywhere. Things fall in place but a bit of preparation is not forbidden. So when I purposely passed in front of that lovely blue shop, I was called and asked, after many exchanges of greetings, to shoot some portraits. Usually I get women, kids or warriors to ask. This time men were keen too. Maybe alcohol helped a bit in one case or 2.…
Extended ears here set in comfy mode.
Blood-shot eyes, reeking alcohol and nice ear ring…
The area in front of the house is sandy. 12o’clock but the reflection on my subject is just fine, isn’t t? No need for reflector.
I was keen on portraits but the people came with also with their own wish…friends together.
Or inside that blue house which is a grocery shop. The shop owner was so proud to pose in it.
And a final gathering. Here I used a bit of flash to fill in the strong shadows. 12 o'clock the light is at its worst...
8 minutes because I had to walk back to my airplane for a HF radio call, but I’ll be back with the promised prints for everybody, and plans to shoot more, hopefully inside huts…
