excised girls in Masai culture are normally considered unclean while healing. The normal behaviour would be to hide and keep low profile. Nevertheless I’ve managed to build some trust in the villages where Flying Medical Service operates and for a hard copy picture, this girl and few others would come in the open. But I don’t have that many portraits.
for other reasons, old Masai men and women can’t be bothered either to accept to pose. This one was a bit drunk alongside his buddies so I managed to snap one.
eye diseases used to be rife…flies were and still are the main culprits.
