Just being a bit lazy today, there is no particular theme in the pictures below..

 

I wish I had had more time to stop and see that bush contraption from up close. Needless to stay the engine rattled quite a lot. I would venture in naming a Land Cruiser as a base...

I tend to post pictures of the picturesque Africa...guilty. To show what is similar to Europe doesn't seem so attractive but then I decided to be fair and show everything modern and maybe boring. There is a lot more than the bush....And while doing that, I noticed the stunning fashion, the colors, the style, the various styles and that became interesting.

 

Stripes and polka dots in the KFC. This model could have been waiting in a Subway or Pizza Hut.

 

I did wait 10 min for this one. I had noticed the new buses had the same ad as the building...Those buses hav their own fast lanes in Dar.

 

 

The modern bus stands are located between the 2 bus lanes. So while I drive I get this kind of view, like a catwalk. Can you see my reflection in the yellow pattern?

"Yo Bro whassup?". Those have been here for a while. Big hit in the local music industry.

Poor framing, sorry but look at the girl on the right side. Does she know these ripped jean's have been around for 50 years?

Also the rainbow shoes? That is where I feel very old...Sometimes I only notice extra details when I start the editing.

Over the Rufii river. That was my lucky day, an elephant crossing is quite a rare occurrence across such a wide river.

One day last month in the middle of the rainy seasons, the rain was  intense in Dar. Some pictures in the slums…

Traffic jams…motorists hate it but street vendors love them…poor guys, the whole day in scorching humid heat…

 

 

Some vendors can’t walk to the stranded cars but there is all the time to leave the car and walk to them or just whistle and an aide will come.

 

Cheap restaurants on the side of the road are nearly a national icon.

 

 

This is something I have a hard time to understand: personally I don’t give a flying f… about soccer but Africa has given some of the best soccer players to Europe then why have stickers to the glory of “mzungu” (white people in swahili), whether this trainer here or Beckham or other white stars? I saw a guy named Drogba only on Pepsi ads…

Quite a few lost masai men in Dar. What are they doing so far from their homeland? Whenever I see them here they seem to do peanuts or just sell a few dirty jars full of whatever suspicious mixtures…

Lost Masai people, quite far away from their homeland. Not sure what kind of business they are up to but I bet profits will be minimal. Is it as a good trade as with cattle business in the open bush?

traffic jams are notorious in Dar. A lot of people are trying to make a living alongside the queues….whether cripple people or street vendors.

a helmet protecting the headlight....to give credit to this guy, Dar climate can be so scorching hot that a helmet looks like torture. Still no such excuse in Arusha and many riders do have a helmet though not on their clumsy head.

Mig 21/ J 7 in Tanzania

 

in Dar Es Salaam last week. J 7s Chengdu are Chinese copies of the legendary Russian Mig 21, here on a formation take off. A 4th plane was on schedule but didn’t make it.

the airspace was closed for about an hour. The jets went to the neighboring island, Zanzibar, for a show.

Quite a show, I had never seen a Mig 21, not even on a static show. Quite a treat.
